With the rising price of gasoline, it is no wonder that many homeowners switch over to electric lawn mowers. Both corded and cordless mowers require a lot less money to operate and maintain. Plus, they are better for the environment.

The Worx WG779 2x20V (4.0AH) Cordless 14" Lawn Mower is one such popular model. But does it live up to the hype? Or are there better electric lawn mowers out there?

In this Worx lawn mower review, we take an in-depth look at the product and let you know if it is worth the asking price. But before we begin the discussion let us take a closer look at the product and the features it offers.

What is the Worx Lawn Mower?

Worx is a lawn and power tool company that produces electric lawn mowers. Their most popular product is the Worx WG779 Lawn Mower. The product runs on a battery instead of gasoline or manual pushing. You can charge the battery by using an included charger in any outlet.

Electric lawn mowers like the Worx WG779 Lawn Mower not only cut pack on energy costs, but they also run much quieter than gasoline models. This feature makes it convenient for people who cut grass in the early morning.

Plus, you do not need to worry about pulling finicky cords to start the device. Electric lawn mowers come with a push to start function which adds a layer of convenience.

While you can use the product on wet grass, doing so decreases the performance of the device and can potentially damage it. As such, it comes with some controlled conditions in which you can use it.

How the Worx Lawn Mower Compares with Other Brands

In this section of the Worx lawn mower review, we compare the Worx WG779 2x20V (4.0AH) Cordless 14" Lawn Mower with two other popular electric lawn mower brands.

Specifically, we compare it with the Sun Joe MJ401C-PRO and the American Lawn Mower Company 50514 14-Inch 11-Amp Corded Electric Lawn Mower.

We make these comparisons, so we get a better sense of the strengths and weaknesses behind the Worx product. It also gives customers some good alternatives if they decide the product is not for them.

While the Sun Joe MJ401C-PRO 14-Inch 28-Volt Cordless Push Lawn Mower might not feature as strong a battery as the Worx model, it does represent another great mower for small yards. It can even last longer if you run it at lower power settings.

Ease of Use

The cordless nature of the Sun Joe MJ401C-PRO 14-Inch 28-Volt Cordless Push Lawn Mower gives you a degree of freedom that is missing on corded models. The quality of the battery also makes it ideal for small to medium yards.

You can run the mower for around forty minutes which makes it more long-lasting than the Worx product. However, the battery charge on the Sun Joe mower is a bit of a pain. It takes almost four hours to charge the battery on the product.

Assembly Time

The process of assembling the Sun Joe MJ401C-PRO 14-Inch 28-Volt Cordless Push Lawn Mower is pain-free and comfortable. The wheels are the only part that requires a little attention when you put it together.

Build Quality

Unfortunately, the central area the Sun Joe MJ401C-PRO 14-Inch 28-Volt Cordless Push Lawn Mower suffers is the longevity of the product. While it works great for the first year or so, many long term customers report a distinct lack of quality.

Warranty

The Sun Joe MJ401C-PRO comes with a two-year warranty on the product.

Ease of Use

The corded nature of the American Lawn Mower Company 50514 Electric Lawn Mower makes it a little harder to use than some other electric mowers. You will always need to remain plugged in to use it. You will also need to navigate around the cord while you mow.

Assembly Time

The American Lawn Mower Company 50514 Electric Lawn Mower also takes almost no time to assemble. You only need to attach the top section on to the undercarriage which you can accomplish in under five minutes.

Build Quality

The American Lawn Mower Company 50514 Electric Lawn Mower does not feel exceptionally sturdy when you use it. It looks a lot more toy-like than some of the other models and features a similar short lifespan as some of the other cheap foreign models.

The American Lawn Mower Company 50514 14-Inch 11-Amp Corded Electric Lawn Mower comes with a two-year warranty.

Pros and Cons

In this section, we talk about some of the things we like about the Worx WG779 2x20V (4.0AH) Cordless 14" Lawn Mower and some things we think could use improvement. We use both our observations and other users experience, so we get a more objective view of the product.

Pros

One great thing about the Worx WG779 2x20V (4.0AH) Cordless 14" Lawn Mower is the lightweight nature of the product. If you find that traditional mowers require too much effort due to their weight, then you will appreciate this model.

The fact that it does not make much noise when you run it is another huge plus. Since it does not run on gasoline, it also does not produce constant fumes that you need to smell while working.

We do not recommend the Worx WG779 2x20V (4.0AH) Cordless 14" Lawn Mower for larger yards, but we do think it works great for its intended purpose: small yard under five thousand square feet.

The process of assembling the electric lawn mower is also a breeze. All you need to do is attach the handlebar to the main section of the device.

  • Lightweight design
  • Does not make much noise
  • No gasoline smell
  • Great for small yards
  • Easy to assemble

Cons

Unfortunately, the product is not perfect. A universal complaint associated with the product seems to be the overall battery life of the mower. Many people found that their battery either died out before they finished mowing or steadily declined over time.

Most people said they could get roughly twenty to thirty minutes of life out of the batteries if they are lucky. Another problem associated with the Worx WG779 2x20V (4.0AH) Cordless 14" Lawn Mower is the undercarriage of the device.

Certain types of grass, like winter rye, clog up and stick to the bottom of the device. This con means that you need to remove vast clumps of grass before you continue mowing manually. As such, you should avoid it for cutting massive, dense clusters of grass and weeds.

While you might be tempted to use the turbo settings to cut denser grass, you will be thoroughly disappointed if you try it. The higher power settings add almost nothing in terms of reducing strength and drain the battery much quicker.

On top of all of these problems, the device also costs a lot more than some other types of electric mowers.

  • Poor battery life
  • Clogs with certain types of grass
  • Extraneous power settings
  • High price

Worx Lawn Mower Review Conclusion

In our opinion, the Worx WG779 2x20V (4.0AH) Cordless 14" Lawn Mower offers an excellent product for a specific type of customer. People who want a more natural way to cut their small yards will undoubtedly appreciate the convenience that comes with the product.

However, the battery is not strong enough to handle large yards that take more than twenty or so minutes to mow. You also need to factor in other cons like the high price and clogging nature of the undercarriage.

As such, whether or not the product works for you depends on your needs. However, if the product falls within your price range, grass type and yard size, then we think you will like your product. Therefore, we give it a final rating of three in half stars out of five stars.

We hope this Worx lawn mower review helped you decide whether or not the product fits your needs. Good luck with the rest of your shopping experience!
